The Montana State University Bobcats took on the University of Mary Marauders (UMary), the Number-1 ranked team in the nation, in American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) action this past weekend.
On Friday, after a quick UMary powerplay goal, the Bobcats answered with an equalizer from Luke Bing. The Bobcats hung with the Mauarders for most of the game, until UMary pulled away with increased efforts in both of the second and third period to win 6-1.
On Saturday, Ryan Padden and Jack Qualen scored for Montana State, but the Bobcats would lose 6-2.
“We played a very good team from the University of Mary,” said Head Coach Dave Weaver. “We learned a lot of where we need to grow and what we need to do to be at the top.”
The Bobcats head into the break with a 10-8 record after playing some of the top teams in the ACHA’s West Region which included the top 10 ranked clubs: Williston State, Dakota College, and Eastern Washington.
“The season is off to a great start. We’ve won nearly every game we were supposed to, and stole a couple we weren’t,” said Montana State Captain Luke Bing. “If we continue this trend, I expect us to make a real run at the regionals.”
